Summary

The long, tarnished chain and heart-shaped pendant is heavy in Paige’s hand。 Carefully prying it open she can just make out the tiny engraving inside。 What she reads will change everything she ever believed about her great-aunt Violet, and their family history…When newly single and heartbroken Paige inherits an isolated cottage facing out to the wild sea on Dune Island from her great-aunt Violet, she is shocked。 Paige never even met Violet, and she’s heard family stories about how a terrible incident involving the wealthy neighboring Hathaway family during World War Two led Violet to withdraw from everyone。 But why would Violet leave everything to her?Determined to clear out the cottage and sell it as quickly as possible, when Paige bumps into Seth Hathaway as he walks back from the beach, at first she’s guarded。 But Seth’s easy smile makes her think that maybe the Hathaways can be trusted after all…Then Paige finds an old envelope containing her aunt’s only piece of jewelry。 The romantic message inscribed inside brings tears to her eyes, and Seth shows her how the initials match those carved with a heart into an ancient beech tree on her aunt’s property。 Did Violet live her whole life yearning for the person who gave her the locket? As Paige and Seth grow closer, she starts to wonder if she could find happiness right here on Dune Island。 And if Paige discovers the identity of Violet’s lost love, can she finally clear her aunt’s name—or in this tight-knit island community, should some secrets be left in the past forever?Fans of Mary Ellen Taylor, Carolyn Brown and Barbara O’Neal will adore this absolutely stunning and addictive read about the sacrifices people make to be with the ones they love, and how bringing family secrets into the light can change everything。 Read what everyone’s saying about Kristin “WOW! I first just want to say that the minute this author Kristin brings out a new book, straight away it goes to top of my to be read list, as I always enjoy reading books by this author。 So Aunt’s Violet Locket is Kristin Harper’s sixth book and yet I’ve read them all。 Just like her other books, I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it was beautiful, heartfelt and emotional in places。 Plenty of drama going on also, especially with the Cousin Tara and just a little bit with neighbour Lexie too。 I did lov I first just want to say that the minute this author Kristin brings out a new book, straight away it goes to top of my to be read list, as I always enjoy reading books by this author。 So Aunt’s Violet Locket is Kristin Harper’s sixth book and yet I’ve read them all。 Just like her other books, I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it was beautiful, heartfelt and emotional in places。 Plenty of drama going on also, especially with the Cousin Tara and just a little bit with neighbour Lexie too。 I did love getting to know all of the characters though, even those with only little parts to play, learning each of their stories and seeing them all interact with each other。 The story was very well written I thought and the characters were wonderfully developed and so very real, they almost felt like real people at times, not just characters。And last but not least, the setting of Dune Island sounded soo truly picturesque and idyllic, would loved to have been experiencing it myself for real。 。。。more

I enjoyed the premise of this book a lot and enjoyed the storyline of Paige trying to figure out what happened to her Aunt VIolet, but I found Paige quite a hard character to like, she seemed to get quite angry at the wrong people, though I would say she was a lot more likeable than her family members and it was getting quite tedious hearing about her Niece's engagement party!I loved hearing how Aunt VIolet's story developed though and how it wasn't what we first thought, the letter was a great I enjoyed the premise of this book a lot and enjoyed the storyline of Paige trying to figure out what happened to her Aunt VIolet, but I found Paige quite a hard character to like, she seemed to get quite angry at the wrong people, though I would say she was a lot more likeable than her family members and it was getting quite tedious hearing about her Niece's engagement party!I loved hearing how Aunt VIolet's story developed though and how it wasn't what we first thought, the letter was a great way to illustrate this。 I am glad that the story went the way it did and was really pleased with the ending, but it was a shame that I just didn't click with the characters as much as i wanted to。 。。。more

I loved Paige Taylor’s reaction to her inheritance and how she grew from her original thoughts about the “dinky little hut” to treasuring her Great Auntie Violet’s “quintessential Hope Haven cottage”。 Each time she was brusque, she took time to think and apologized。 Lexie was a handful at first but loved how she grew, too。 I appreciated how the FMC of both timelines were united in loss and how the reaction to the loss took them on different journeys。 Seth Hathaway was dreamy and a perfect MMC。 I shed a tear at the abrupt ending to the beech tree legacy。Among the many highlighted passages, these two stand out:💛Being reminded “of the principle that most choices involve loss, too。”💛The importance of learning to be content with who we are and giving agency to inner strength that comes from living life on our own termsI’d give anything to sit on the deck at the Atkin’s home on Spindrift Lane, sipping an iced Americano, listening to the gull calls and the waves lapping the shore。This can be read as a stand-alone。 Congratulations to the graphic designer - all Harper's covers are beautiful!I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review。 。。。more

I have enjoyed the previous books in the Dune Island series and was looking forward to antoher enjoyable story and that is exactly what I got。 Paige is newly single and had just bought a new condo to be closer to the hospital where she works in Chicago, when she is notified that she has inherited her great-aunt's cottage on Dune Island。 Aunt Violet was a recluse, and single women, never married。 There are lots of stories that Paige heard about her strange aunt, but she isn't sure what to believe I have enjoyed the previous books in the Dune Island series and was looking forward to antoher enjoyable story and that is exactly what I got。 Paige is newly single and had just bought a new condo to be closer to the hospital where she works in Chicago, when she is notified that she has inherited her great-aunt's cottage on Dune Island。 Aunt Violet was a recluse, and single women, never married。 There are lots of stories that Paige heard about her strange aunt, but she isn't sure what to believe。 In her will Violet has left her estate to the oldest, non-married female in her family。 If she decides not to live in the cottage, the she must sell it and split the proceeds with all the nieces and nephews in her generation。 Paige goes to Dune Island to see what the cottage might need and to find a real estate agent to sell it for her。 When she arrives, she is shocked by the state the cottage is in, but it doesn't take her long to begin to relax and enjoy her time on Dune Island。 I really enjoyed this story and I especially liked Paige。 She is a wonderful woman。 I love the way she digs in not only to fix up the cottage, but in her quest to find out as much as she can about her Aunt Violet。 She doesn't just believe everything she is told, but searches for the truth, or at least what truth she can find。 Then there is Seth Hathaway。 There has been bad blood between the Hathaways and Paige's family, but Seth is different from what she expected, at least once she gives him a chance。 He is handsome, helpful, caring, loves his dog and surfing and is attracted to Paige。 The beauty and serenity of Dune Island made me want to visit and spend time at the cottage。 Paige's brother and cousins were not my favourite people at all。 They were selfish and very self-centered, not only did they not come and help Paige, but they were constantly pressuring her。 I enjoyed the story of what happened to Violet so many years ago and how Paige solved the puzzle。 With the help of a locket, a man who remembers Violet as a teenager and a hidden letter, she pieces things together。 This is a story of secrets, finding what you really want out of life, romance, trusting yourself and following your own path。 I really enjoyed this story and it is a wonderful addition to the book in the Dune Island series。 。。。more

It was like sliding into a pair of warm cosy slippers: welcoming and reassuring。 It was both comforting and invigorating with memorable characters, exquisite scenes, exciting surprises and a terrific ending。 It brought to the surface many familiar feelings, observances and longings。 Who wouldn’t want to escape to Dune Island and live in an inherited cottage by the sea? This novel focuses on family and a fascinating mystery。 Paige is a nurse at a stressful job in the city and she has come through a difficult romantic relationship。 When she discovers her aunt has left her a cottage on Dune island, she is shocked as she did not really know her。 But when she sets foot on the island, she begins to unravel the life of a woman who was thought by her family to be fairly odd。 The truth, though, is quite different from what everyone imagined。 While Paige attempts to get the cottage ready to sell, and her family eagerly waits for a share of the proceeds, Paige stumbles across some unexpected information。 She originally had no intentions of staying on the island, but after meeting the locals and particularly a man from a rival family near her Aunt Violet’s cottage, she begins to see life in quite a different light。 Will the island do its magic on her and change her mind about selling the cottage? A real tug of war begins with her family (and in her own heart) as she consults them while providing updates on her aunt’s history。 They, of course, are not so interested in the woman they never knew and want Paige to get on with disposing the old cottage to fund their own indulgences。 But with all that Paige encounters on the island, it causes her to slow down and take everything into consideration。 She begins to discover the real story behind her aunt, her gifts, courage, strength and a romance that nobody knew about。 Well, almost nobody。 And as she starts to see things she did not notice before, her heart transforms。 She finds answers for her own life, the more she uncovers of her aunt’s。 Seth Hathaway, is part of that process, too, as he is quite a different man than she originally thought。 This is such a delicious feast filled with love, mystery, new starts, historical secrets, beautiful scenery, fascinating memorabilia, expressive art, lovely islanders, and wonderful life changing connections。 I enjoyed all the exploration and discoveries that helped Paige make all the right choices in the end。 I love stories that delve into families and their pasts。 This one uncovers some moving surprises and highlights the jewel moments of a woman’s life。 In doing so, Paige has honoured her Aunt’s memory。 The cottage, the old tree, the locket and a few other surprise items (I won’t mention as I don’t want to spoil anyone’s reading experience) create a perfect patchwork story of this woman’s life。 These treasures all bring Paige closer to the truth。 And the gorgeous old tree that has weathered many storms will forever stand like a ghost beacon to the past—even after it has been uprooted。 For it has seen romance, heartbreak, rivalry and ruin。 This island icon is a subtle symbol that quietly exudes atmosphere and purpose。 I could easily picture it on the horizon—season after season weathering the changes。 It is a reflection of Aunt Violet’s life in many ways but also carries a delicate WW2 connection that ties in with the mystery that surrounds her。I loved everything about Aunt Violet’s Locket。 It really captured my heart and made me feel so many emotions。 This is an exceptionally delivered family drama that will stay with me a long, long time。 An absolute Must-Read。 5 Heartfelt Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my review copy 。。。more

This was a wonderful read。 I’m loving this series。 Each book is a stand-alone and simply wonderful。 I really enjoyed learning about Violet。 Her story has been kept secret her whole life and Paige slowly uncovers what really happened and learns a lot about herself along the way。 The way Seth weaves himself into the story is great too。 Paige isn’t sure about how she feels and they certainly have a few set backs along the way, but the slowly developing relationship between them is quite beautiful。 This was a wonderful read。 I’m loving this series。 Each book is a stand-alone and simply wonderful。 I really enjoyed learning about Violet。 Her story has been kept secret her whole life and Paige slowly uncovers what really happened and learns a lot about herself along the way。 The way Seth weaves himself into the story is great too。 Paige isn’t sure about how she feels and they certainly have a few set backs along the way, but the slowly developing relationship between them is quite beautiful。 The island life slowly works its way under her skin and Paige can’t bear the leave。 A lovely read from start to finish。 。。。more

I haven’t read the other 5 books in this series but read Aunt Violet’s book as a stand alone book。 I enjoyed the story of Paige inheriting her great Aunt Violet’s cabin on Dune Island。 The terms of her will are as long as she lives in the property full time she is the sole owner of the property。 If she chooses to sell the property she must split everything with her brothers and cousins。 The property butts up to the mega rich neighbors property。 Paige is given a small box of a few of her aunts pe I haven’t read the other 5 books in this series but read Aunt Violet’s book as a stand alone book。 I enjoyed the story of Paige inheriting her great Aunt Violet’s cabin on Dune Island。 The terms of her will are as long as she lives in the property full time she is the sole owner of the property。 If she chooses to sell the property she must split everything with her brothers and cousins。 The property butts up to the mega rich neighbors property。 Paige is given a small box of a few of her aunts personal belongings and in there she finds a small locket with some initials and starts a search looking for whoever gave her aunt the locket。 I enjoyed the story of Aunt Violet and the search of the giver of the locket and Paige’s decision on what she would do with the property in the end。Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review ARC。 。。。more

Bookouture books always keeps me reading, and this one was no different。 Aunt Violet's Locket, really intrigued me from the start。 I had expectations about the book and was pleasantly surprised, that this book exceeded my expectations。 Aunt Violet lived to be 99 years old, and people knew of Aunt Violet, but did they really know Aunt Violet? You will not believe who Aunt Violet was, the life she had, and the women she was。 When I started reading it, I was only going to read for a little while, b Bookouture books always keeps me reading, and this one was no different。 Aunt Violet's Locket, really intrigued me from the start。 I had expectations about the book and was pleasantly surprised, that this book exceeded my expectations。 Aunt Violet lived to be 99 years old, and people knew of Aunt Violet, but did they really know Aunt Violet? Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing an ARC of this novel to read and review。 Novelist Kristin Harper hits all the right notes in her latest offering。 There is a beautiful setting, historic Dune Island on the Atlantic; a surprise bequest from a reclusive and reputedly “crazy” great-aunt, with strange conditions attached; conflict within families; conflict between families。 And of course a beautiful, capable and untrusting female character who becomes entranced with a handsome, cap Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing an ARC of this novel to read and review。 Novelist Kristin Harper hits all the right notes in her latest offering。 There is a beautiful setting, historic Dune Island on the Atlantic; a surprise bequest from a reclusive and reputedly “crazy” great-aunt, with strange conditions attached; conflict within families; conflict between families。 And of course a beautiful, capable and untrusting female character who becomes entranced with a handsome, capable and “can he be trusted” male character。 The mystery at the start—why did Great-Aunt Violet leave her cottage in a secluded hamlet on Dune Island to her grand-niece Paige, a Chicago nurse whom she had never met—is not the actual mystery at the centre。 Paige, still smarting from a recent unforeseen break-up, is taken aback at her good fortune and happy to comply with one of the weird conditions, that she visit the property and own it for three months before deciding to stay or sell。 If she stays, it is all hers。 If she sells, the money will be divided evenly between Paige and Violet’s other remaining kin, Paige’s brother, her Aunt Shirley, and her cousins, of whom she is close only to Tara。 All of them promise to contribute funds and help with the cleaning up and sprucing up of the derelict cottage, which is prime real estate。 Paige doesn’t even entertain the thought of leaving her job and life。 At least not consciously。 The real mystery has to do with the story behind Aunt Violet’s tarnished, heart-shaped locket that Paige finds while making her way through the clutter, without any of the promised help, except that offered by landscaper Seth Hathaway, who turns up propitiously。 He is a member of the Hathaway clan, island aristocrats who employed young Violet as a babysitter for a child relative during the Second World War。 Then real mystery concerns a scandal involving Violet and the young Hathaway heir, Edward, that broke apart a long standing (if unequal) relationship between the Hathaways and the Atkins whose property abutted their vast estate。 Such was the community approbation that Violet became an instant outcast。 It was assumed, and remained the belief, that she had been in love with Edward, who was socially out of reach to a mere seamstress like Violet。 After her own father’s death, she remained alone and left her cottage only to move into a nursing home some 70 years later。 This much of the story Paige had learned from her aunt Shirley。 The locket’s time-worn inscription leads Paige to some fruitful information about what really happened in August 1943, at the height of American military preparations at the island。 In the meantime, her relationship with her self-absorbed relatives, the elite Hathaway clan, and the honourable but often misunderstood Buddy, provide the context for her own mid life awakening。 This is a fine romance, with a compelling mystery and some very interesting and likely mostly forgotten historical detail about home front military preparations in wartime。 The lead characters are both admirable and good hearted people, though Paige is occasionally just peevish and her family, especially silly Tara, to whom she gives in often, are simply annoying。 Seth is clearly smitten on first encounter, and infinitely patient while he waits for the untrusting Paige to trust again。 An awful lot happens during the brief three weeks of Paige’s visit, in terms of romance, mystery, and especially property renovation, but this is romantic fiction so it’s all part of the enjoyment。 。。。more

A gentle, women’s fiction story。 It was slow to whet my interest。 Paige Taylor is beneficiary of her Great Aunt Violet Atkins estate on Dune Island。 It’s a cottage with incredible ocean views, and she must live there year round to retain ownership。 Her neighbors are Uber rich and demanding in a nice way。 Finding an old locket in her Aunt’s belongings, Paige searches for the Ed who gifted it her。 The story is mostly about the past and current dynamics of the Hathaways and Atkins families。 There a A gentle, women’s fiction story。 It was slow to whet my interest。 Paige Taylor is beneficiary of her Great Aunt Violet Atkins estate on Dune Island。 It’s a cottage with incredible ocean views, and she must live there year round to retain ownership。 Her neighbors are Uber rich and demanding in a nice way。 Finding an old locket in her Aunt’s belongings, Paige searches for the Ed who gifted it her。 The story is mostly about the past and current dynamics of the Hathaways and Atkins families。 There are lots of historical references。 I was happy when the mystery of Ed was solved。 All in all, this story just didn’t interest me that much。 I honestly reviewed an unedited digital arc provided by NetGalley and Bookouture。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more
